Mecánica 14 has actively participated in the Argentine and international nuclear industry, manufacturing critical components for research and power reactors.

— CAREM 25

Modular power reactor developed by CNEA. It uses natural circulation cooling and low-enrichment fuel. It is a strategic development for Argentine technological autonomy in distributed nuclear generation.

— RA10

Multipurpose reactor under construction in Ezeiza, focused on the production of medical radioisotopes, material irradiation, and neutron activation analysis. Its design positions it as one of the most advanced reactors in Latin America.

— RA 6

Experimental reactor located in Bariloche, operated by the Instituto Balseiro. It is used for academic training, research, and technological testing. It is a regional reference in nuclear training.

— RA 8

Low-power reactor used as an experimental platform for criticality testing and physical model validation, fundamental to the development of the CAREM project.

— Argelia

Multipurpose facility, inaugurated in April 1989. The NUR design is similar to the Argentine RA-6 reactor built in Argentina, although it features improvements to the human-machine interface.

— RP-10 (Peru)

Research reactor of the Peruvian Nuclear Energy Institute (IPEN), used for radioisotope production, technical training, and material testing.

— OPAL (Australia)

Research reactor operated by ANSTO. Used for material irradiation, large-scale radioisotope production, and scientific experimentation with neutron beams.

— ETRR-2 (Egipt)

Experimental reactor for research, training, and radioisotope production operated by the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority.

— SPECIAL PROJECT: Atucha II

Atucha II is a nuclear power plant located in Lima, Buenos Aires Province. Its design is of the PHWR type (pressurized heavy water reactor), based on German technology (Siemens), with a net electrical output of 745 MWe. Construction was resumed in 2006 and it was connected to the grid in 2014. Atucha II complements Atucha I in the national electricity supply, being the most powerful nuclear plant built in Argentina.

Mecánica 14’s involvement:

Mecánica 14 played a prominent role in the development of special systems for remote maintenance in high-radiation areas. Specifically:

  • It designed, manufactured, and assembled a robotic system for remote flange cutting, enabling safe operations without direct human entry.
  • It developed a radioactive parts transport system, adapted to the operational requirements of the reactor environment.
  • Both developments were carried out entirely at Mecánica 14’s facilities, in collaboration with a network of local SMEs and entrepreneurs from the Argentine technology ecosystem.
